Cases we take

Wrongful death claims for families

When a death was caused by someone else's carelessness, the family may bring a claim. A partner handles every one.

We represent spouses, children and parents after deaths caused by crashes, unsafe property and other preventable harm. Who may bring the claim, and for whom, depends on the state's rules, and we explain them at the first meeting.

We move at the family's pace. Some families want to know everything; others want us to handle it and call with news. Either is fine, and you can change your mind.

What we do

What happens on a wrongful death claim

We take care of the paperwork so the family doesn't have to.

  • 01

    A meeting with the family

At our office or at your home, with Yvette Pemberton, to hear what happened and who was affected.

  • 02

    The personal representative

We help the family name the person who will bring the claim, and handle the court filing that requires.

  • 03

    Looking into what happened

Reports, records and the scene, the same as any serious injury case, done without asking the family to relive it.

  • 04

    The claim and its distribution

We explain how any recovery is divided under the rules that apply, before anything is signed.

Questions

Wrongful death questions

Is it too soon to talk to a lawyer?

There's no wrong time to ask a question. Some evidence fades fast, so an early conversation can help, even if the family isn't ready to decide.

Who can bring the claim?

That depends on the state and on the family. Usually a personal representative brings it for the people the law names, and we'll explain who that is for you.

Will we have to go to court?

Most claims settle, but we prepare each one as if it will be tried. If yours goes to trial, we'll prepare you for every step.
